Aahh Chanel, just as I thought I was swearing off your little jars of glittery preciousness (because I never use them fast enough and then they dry up in loneliness)… you turn out even more gorgeousness! I wasn’t even keeping an eye out for these, but sometimes life is like that isn’t it? You just don’t notice the moon up in the sky until a new one rises. But hopefully, this particular new moon will stay on my fickle consciousness for a bit longer!
It is insufficient to wax lyrical about Chanel Illusion d’Ombre New Moon, it is that spectacular. Unassuming in the jar… this spongy mass of bronze… yikes no more brown thank you very much! But once swatched, the planets align properly to transform into a purple-y molten copper filled with iridescent glitter!! Yes, it has rendered me quite speechless. Let’s look at some swatches instead.
I must be insane since I just culled Ebloui from my stash not too long ago, and here I am adding another purple in its place. But really, New Moon is on a different planetary orbit altogether. Even though it pulls purple when swatched, New Moon thins out when applied with a brush on the lids (which is typical of Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombres), and comes out warmer and more pale copper/bronze with multi-tonal iridescent shimmers!
But when applied over a darkening base, the purpley bronze starts to emerge. There was so much shimmer that my camera went blind, resulting in this blurry image that shows up the glitter beautifully. Not to worry about this being too over-the-top though, the glitters are so fine I felt perfectly comfortable wearing this to the office. In fact, the brown-based color is not something I would typically wear alone, but the glitters made it fun enough for me.
Gorgeous color aside, I was slightly disappointed to find that New Moon was prone to fall-outs. Nothing overly conspicious, but still… fallout despite a good primer (I tried both Tom Ford Eye Primer and Dior Backstage Pro Prime). Really Chanel, you can and should do better.
And as if it is not enough to tempt us with New Moon, there is another to help us cinch that top spot as bronze goddesses – Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Mirage is a cool bronze that feels more gold than brown. It is shimmery although much lesser in quantity and color variety than New Moon.
Just in case bronze isn’t your thang, Chanel has a fail-safe color this year (or so it seems)… Utopia is a pale lavender with yup, more sparkles! I didn’t feel as compelled to hand over my money for Mirage and Utopia just yet (things may change who knows!) because they are permanent. So I don’t have EOTDs using them for you. New Moon, on the other hand, is limited edition which fuels the insanity. In fact, it has already soldout twice at the Chanel boutique in Ion. Don’t wait too long to check it out!
