My Maison Martin Margiela x H&M haul
After my great debacle with the last designer collaboration for H&M, I’ve vowed never to queue personally for the launch. So, for the recent Maison Martin Margiela x H&M collection, I stayed home instead, and spent my hours (whilst breastfeeding) trawling ebay for the pieces I coveted. And my haul finally arrived from the US today!!!
I was so excited, that i snuck 10 minutes whilst baby was napping to wriggle into the dresses and snapped some shots! Apologies for the horrible grainy photos… I should have grabbed a proper camera given the low lighting, but there simply was no time! [And I REALLY should have combed my hair, put on some makeup and ditched those glasses!!! *GASP!]
First up, the Red Hitched-up Dress that I was deliberating for so long…
There is absolutely no way I can wear this dress as it is, but with a belt to cinch in the waist, and some cute heels, it looks quite glam really! And my fav part is the low v-back which came as a nice surprise since none of the pictures released online showed this!
The side is a tad long given my *erhmm* petite frame, so I will probably stitch it up a little so I don’t look like i just grabbed my bedsheets and ran out of the house. The only downside of this dress, is that it’s really quite heavy given all the fabric. Probably not one for dancing!
Next, is the Fusion of Two Dress!
This is definitely made for a much taller body than mine… the deep plunge neckline is too revealing for me, so I will probably wear it with a lace bra or a camisole. Obviously the hemline needs to be shortened somewhat too. I’m wearing a size up here, size 2 would have fit much better, but incredibly, this dress is constructed without a zipper or any sort of closure and the fabric had absolutely no give. There was no way I could have shimmied my post-pregnancy hips into anything tighter!
I love the asymmetrical cut in the back!
After much deliberation, I also bought the Blue Horizontal Dress…
I expected there to be a whole lot of fabric with this one, but was hoping to be able to do some minor deconstruction to make it more street-worthy. However, having actually put this one, I realized it’s really quite overwhelming on me. I felt like a homeless person! So, in all likelihood, this is going into my little “museum”.
I also purchased the Trompe L’oeil Sequin Evening Dress. Having heard that piece ran a bit smaller than the rest of the collection, and that the fabric had no give, I decided to order a size up. That turned out to be a mistake as the dress was way too long and baggy. It was so disappointing I couldn’t bring myself to snap a shot. Maybe my seamstress can fix it… but the high cutting along the neckline and sleeves coupled with the too-shiny fabric is not appealing as an evening gown to me.
Did you manage to snag anything from the collection? Let me know your thoughts!

Those dresses looks absolutely lovely and stunning! You look stunning on them! :)
thank you for your sweet comment!!!
