These Colors of the Rainbow…
I was tagged by the generous Nicci of A Different Face to show my top picks for each color of the rainbow. Such a novel tag, and I loved it! And of course, my education instantly flew out the window as I spent hours selecting each color and photographing them… only to find much later, that I missed out 1!! Brilliant! Anyway, here goes:
Red: Shiseido Camellia Compact
I wanted to pick something red that wasn’t a lippie, and this is the only true red blush that I own. The rests are maroon or deep reddened pink at best. This Shiseido Camellia Compact was a limited edition release to commemorate the company’s 140th anniversary in 2012. I picked it up recently at a Shiseido warehouse sale at a deep discount, and it is simply too pretty to use! It contains 3 different shades of shimmery pearlescent white, shimmery pink and red. Each shade can be used individually or swirled together on the cheeks or eyes.
Orange: YSL Rouge pur Couture #52 Rosy Coral
Thanks to this tag, I realized I have yet to own an orange eyeshadow! And I think I know just how to rectify that asap! The closest to orange that I can find, is this YSL Rouge Pur Couture #52 Rosy Coral, which I had recently reviewed here. It is at once neon orange, fuchsia and red depending on the way the light hits it.
Yellow: Chanel Illusion d’Ombre #69 Vision
It’s hard for me to carry off yellow, they have to be really cool-toned, like this yellow gold Chanel Illusion d’Ombre. I love the shimmer and a light wash of this looks best on my lids when paired with black or a deepening shade. On it’s own, this does tend to apply patchy unlike others in its class, which is why til now it has remained relatively untouched.
Green: SUQQU EX-19 Touryokuzora
Aahh… the magical world of SUQQU Holiday 2013 collections! This is surely my favorite green shade… it is complex, full of gold glitter (have I mentioned I adore gold?!), and looks amazing on us yellow-skinned people. Read all about my love for this gorgeous palette here.
Blue: By Terry Crayon Kohl Terrybly Blue Vision
It was a real dilemma, my first instinct was to pull out SUQQU EX-18 for this one or even Surratt’s Artistique Eyeshadow in Minuit. But in the interest of having some variety in this line-up, I decided to go with this wonderfully smooth and amazingly pigmented eye pencil from By Terry’s Crayon Kohl Terrybly collection! If you followed my quest for the perfect eyeliner pencil, you’d have heard me wax lyrical about these pencils, and lament about how profanely expensive these are. But they are useable both as liners and as eyeshadows too if that helps.
Indigo: Tatcha Indigo Collection
Nothing falls in this category more perfectly than Tatcha’s latest bodycare range (reviewed here)!! Made from Japanese indigo plant, these have healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Ever since I had my baby, my hands have been constantly chapped and peeling from washing (whoever said baby detergents are gentle are plain LYING…they are stronger than normal to remove oil from breast milk and food stains on clothes!!), and Tatcha’s Indigo hand cream has been a real hand-saver for me!
Violet: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #3 Purpura
Someday, I will write up a review of the handful of GA ETKs that I own, but for now, suffice to say that I love these little jars of gems. They are a hybrid texture, feels like powder but acts like cream, slightly drier and not bouncy like Chanel Illusion d’Ombre, but applies as smoothly and much more intensely. This particular shade won the coveted spot in this line-up (out of my many many varied purples!) because it packs a lovely amount of gold in there (again!!).
