Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Foundation
I have been wanting to try one of the foundations from the Marc Jacobs Beauty line for the longest time, so I was very excited when I was gifted with a bottle of the Genius Gel Foundation in Light Bisque (which was a perfect match for me!).
Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Foundation is touted as a “breakthrough” gel foundation that is buildable from light to full coverage. It contains the Buoyancy Gel™ technology that enhances the performance of this foundation to make it weightless, never settle into fine lines, and thus creating a natural veil. The formula includes extract of coconut water for ultimate hydration, bio-lipids and sodium hyaluronate to regenerate the skin with anti-aging properties. The use of soft focus powders reflect light for exceptional radiance, and advanced pigments give a brightening effect.
It all sounds amazing to me… until I put this foundation to the test.
Despite the gel technology, this felt like a very normal fluid foundation to me. It did not even feel particularly thick or different in any noticeable way, and is in fact rather runny. This does not bother me at all, as I found the texture easy to use and blend.
In terms of coverage, I would put this as light / medium… even after dabbing additional product on spots, I could never achieve full coverage. A concealer is certainly still needed. It dries quickly to a matte finish on me. Whilst it is not a powdery sort of matte-ness, I hesitate to describe the finish as satin (as is Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Foundation), and most certainly not velvet (as is Guerlain Tenue de Perfection).
Due to my oily combination skin, I am usually very fond of matte foundations. However, I found that Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Foundation did not last me throughout the day. Even when prepped with my HG Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, I noticed shine creeping in after about 6-7 hours. At the end of a long day, I noticed the foundation was patchy and faded in areas.
Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Foundation is available at all Sephora outlets and is priced at SGD75 (or USD48) for 30ml. Have you tried it for yourself? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
