The pervasive Asian obsession with whitening has finally ensnared me!! As I mature, I grow more and more envious of the translucence of younger skin. The latest reincarnation of whitening products promise to not only prevent future formation of pigmentation, but to also even out skin tone by lightening existing spots and reducing redness. The result – translucent and radiant skin!
Guerlain’s Blanc de Perle skincare and makeup collection combines innovative technology with the extraordinary whitening power of pure pearl extracts to form a P.E.A.R.L. complex. This works to reduce melanin production at the source, and reorganizes the skin to allow for the total elimination of melanin.
I had a chance to experience the entire collection at one of Guerlain’s workshops last month, so this is going to be a LONG review!

Guerlain Blanc de Perle Makeup
From left to right:
Meteorites Perles Primer – suspended meteorites pumps out as a smooth gel that conceal imperfections, blur dark spots, smooth and soften the skin’s texture and subtly mattify the complexion
Shine Control mist – this is my latest FAVE makeup primer!! 2 types of white powder are encapsulated in a fluid that sprays on to control oil. May be used under or above makeup for all day shine control!
Blanc de Perle compact foundation - an infallible matt finish and immaculate whiteness for the complexion, comes with a “light ribbon” to erase shadows and sculpt the face
Blanc de Perle Fluid foundation – a light foundation with hydrating properties (reviewed here)
Meteorites Perles – this Blanc de Perle version of the famous meteorites comes in subtle matt white, bluish white and rosy white to recreate the original complexion: luminous, even, translucent and amazingly natural.
This Spring, Guerlain has introduced a limited edition Sakura blush. Containing 3 shades of pink (coral, light, bright) and a light ribbon. These can be used individually or swirled together.
There is also the highlighting corrector which is a permanent addition to the family. This comes in 2 shades – a yellow and a pink undertone.
My LOVES
The Guerlain Blanc de Perle UV Base is a wonderful multitaskerthat I absolutely adore! It is first and foremost a long-lasting sunblock that is light and a pleasure to use. It also acts as a makeup base, adding radiance to any complexion, and comes in 2 additional formula (Rose for added radiance boost, and BB to counteract redness) to correct skin tone. There is also an SPF50 PA+++ version in Pearl, which unfortunately I found a little (just a tad) thicker and oilier. I am currently using SPF30 Pearl religiously, and I love it!
Guerlain has also introduced a clever way for us to touch up our sunblock via the convenient Meteorites Compact SPF35 PA+++! This gives a translucent finish that also helps reduce shine!
If you’ve seen my earlier post titled “Battle of the Primers” (read here), you’ll know that I’ve had a challenging time finding the right primer. This probably sounds cheesy, but my life is forever changed when I encountered Guerlain Shine Control. This innovative texture pulls off the extraordinary feat of infusing two types of white powders into an ultra-fresh, ultra-light fluid to ensure high-definition flawless skin anytime, anywhere. As a primer, this is practically weightless! I spray 2 pumps on my palm and pat over the UV base before applying foundation. Afterwards, I pat another 2 pumps on top, and my makeup lasts ALL DAY!! Most importantly, Shine Control does not contain any silica, so my skin is immensely grateful!
Final thoughts
I love the fact that Guerlain has designed the skincare and makeup collections to work seamlessly together, with most items providing more than 1 function. True to its heritage as a French fragrance house, the Blanc de Perle range smells amazing, and the textures are a delight to the senses! If there is 1 item to stock up on, that would be Shine Control!
You should definitely give Shine Control a shot! It’s my oily skin’s savior! I liked the meteorites primer, lightweight and holds my makeup well. Doesn’t cause breakouts, which is a HUGE deal for me…(that reminds me, I need to get my Battle of the Primers part II out soon!!). I also tried L’or which is a little too yellow for me. The latest limited edition summer gold meteorites primer is GORGEOUS! Hmm… maybe i’ll do a write-up on that one in a bit! 😉
Thanks for the recommendation! I’m gg to add the guerlain shine control into my guerlain wishlist!! How about the other guerlain primers?
