I don’t remember if there was ever an eyeshadow palette (or any piece of makeup) that I had lusted after so much, and that had been the subject of such diverging views. But after staying up late trying to order it and failing (thanks a lot, Barney’s!), and then waiting with abated breath for it to be restocked (for a moment there it looked like this may be limited edition!), I am convinced it was all worth it. Let me introduce you to the Hourglass Modernist Infinity Eyeshadow Palette!
This Infinity palette is 1 of 7 new Modernist eyeshadow palettes from Hourglass, each offering 5 shades in different textures and finishes. The most outstanding characteristic is the gorgeous undulating wave-like pattern that the eyeshadow has been moulded into, and the 5 shades meld into each other in a stroke of pure artistry. This Infinity palette was first launched as a Barney’s-exclusive last summer, but was quickly soldout. Since then, Hourglass has released 6 more palettes, and the entire collection may be found wherever Hourglass is sold (e.g. Sephora, Net-a-Porter, Nordstrom, etc). Paralyzed by the sudden onslaught of 7 palettes, I eventually settled on the one that first sparked the fever – Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette in Infinity.
Infinity is a striking palette of warm neutrals comprising mostly of taupes and mauves. The shades are:
Swatches correspond to original placement on palette, from left to right:-
The very moment I received this palette, I put it to work, yes all 5 shades! And I was surprised to find that the shades just blend into each other so easily. I really did not have to think very hard about color placement, nor did anything clash horribly. I simply used the pale ivory shade all over as a base color, dusty rose in the inner half and dark charcoal brown on the outer half. Medium taupe on the crease finished with a pat of metallic mauve on the middle of the lid.
I was surprised to find myself loving Infinity as I am not usually one to reach for neutrals. However, the soft, smooth textures and excellent color pay-off made this one special. Too often, neutrals simply disappear on me, but I am able to work Infinity into quite a strong look without having to layer to death. The incredibly soft texture does translate into some powderiness, but may be completely avoided by using a light touch. And above all, the beautiful wave-like design had me at hello!
Of course, if you already have several neutral mauve palettes, then this is not a must-have. At USD58 for 5gm, the Hourglass Modernist Infinity Eyeshadow Palette is priced as a high-end luxury makeup. this looks great on you! i want to get one.. not sure which yet hehe!
Hey Joyce!! Yeah… i’d be equally stuck if i had decided to buy 1 when they launched all the rests! Good thing i ordered this when there was only 1… LOL!
lol!! I ended up getting exposure 😀 hope i like it when i use it one day, HAHA!
Hahahaahaa…. can’t bear to touch yet?
Hi Linda,
this is the palette I am wearing today on my eyes. It is certainly a very pretty combination of warm and neutral colors. My problem with that is, apart from the price, there are not many looks one can come up with. The shimmery shade is so beautiful and I apply it all over the lid, then the others are just there to support it but they wouldn’t look very nice on their own. I wished there would be two shimmery shades. Obscura on the other hand is another story, love everything about that one. Thanks so much for the link love Xox
Hi Sara, yes I agree… there aren’t very many looks you can do with this palette, but I suppose that is quite a common problem with neutral palettes isn’t it? From the sounds of it, we wear the palette quite differently though! So… dream on! :*
I almost gotten this palette during NAP free shipping period.. No surprise to me when you mention how good the quality of this hourglass modernist palette is! Hourglass has been good! 😉 I gotta wait for the next NAP free shipping and decide!! haha
you need this babe!!! get it!!
such a pretty look! I really don’t need another palette though…
Thanks Ting! Haha… i dont need anymore palettes either… but so pretty!!!
I have Color Field and I do like it, but I am convinced that the more shimmery palettes will perform better than the more matte ones (the one matte shade in Color Field really doesn’t offer much pigment). But you’re right! There is no blending necessary with this formula, and I really like that center shade!
Hmm… there’s only 1 shimmery shade here, and everything works great on my lids!
Neutrals don’t really show up on me too.. Yet this works beautifully on you; it’s making me think twice about owning the palette. How’s the staying power?
It stays beautifully, Lynette! No creasing or fading… lasted me all day!
I have mixed feelings about this palette, just like the mixed reviews I’ve been reading. It does look beautiful in the pan though 🙂
I know… it does seem that way. Perhaps it’s because I hadn’t had many neutral palettes and it’s not revenge of the neutrals for me. Or i’m just a sucker for that beautiful pattern. But i actually thought it performed superbly on me, and i liked how it looked. ;P
I love this palette, your eye look is stunning 🙂
thank you! I love it too!
