Chanel Le Vernis Vert Obscur (679)

August 10, 2015

Hello my loves! How was your weekend? It has been a long 4-day weekend here in Singapore as we celebrated the 50th anniversary of our independence, and we took the little one to a water-themed park, the beach, etc. We tried to visit a couple of museums and get on the cable car as they were open to the public for free just for this weekend, but oh my gosh I just can’t manage the 10-hour queue!! I must have been born missing the gene for queuing that seems to be a part of the Singaporean DNA. Anyway, I was also trying to squeeze in time for some other freelance work on the side, so I found myself more exhausted (both physically and creatively) than usual. On the other hand, I really hate leaving this blog vacant for too long, so I would like to sneak in a quick review of another of Chanel’s nail polishes from the FW2015 Les Automnales Collection - Chanel Le Vernis Vert Obscur.

Chanel Le Vernis Vert Obscur

Chanel Vert Obscur (679) Le Vernis is quite simply a deep forest green. It has been described by some as teal, and I suppose it looked somewhat blue in the bottle, but once applied on the nails, it is a straight-forward green. It reminds me of Tom Ford’s Black Jade [reviewed here] from the Spring 2015 collection, except Vert Obscur has a cream finish whilst Black Jade contained hidden micro-shimmers.

Vert Obscur is one of those jelly nail polishes that has some built-in translucency to allow the actual green color to show through. However, as with most jellies, it often tends to sheer out and requires 3 coats for full opacity. The saving grace of it is that once applied, Vert Obscur seemed to last longer on my nails than most other Chanel Le Vernis. It is also a very chic shade that looks wonderful against my skin tone, and a perfect color for fall.

Similar to Ecorce Sanguine [reviewed here], Chanel Vert Obscur (679) Le Vernis is new and limited edition. Will you be picking this one up? Also, did you do anything fun this weekend? I’m suddenly very aware that summer is almost over and the fall is upon us… so carpe diem!

You are right it looks very green on you. Maybe it changes color based on skin tone. We can classify Vert Obscur as a “chameleon” shade. 🙂 XO

  2. Ooooh, what a stunning deep shade!

  3. Hi Linda,
this one is very unique and looks stunning on you. I was wondering, did you have staining? During swatching it tended to stain my nails and some others reported the same. which base coat do you use?

Hi Sara, I actually ran out of my base coat recently, and i’ve been applying my nail polishes straight to the nail. I expect deep shades like these to be relatively harder to remove, but I didn’t encounter more difficulty with Vert Obscure than with Ecore Sanguine. I actually wore this for 3 days straight (without base) and I only removed it because it started chipping and I can’t stand the slightest sign of wear on my nails. I’ve been using Dior’s base coat which is ok… I’m planning on trying 1 of the new base coats from Chanel and Guerlain soon!

  4. OOOO this is beautiful! I’m not sure I have the patience to apply three coats tho. Maybe I’ll swatch it first!
